Indian National Calendar Saka At the time of Independence the Govt of India followed by the Gregorian calendar based on Christian Era. From 1957 March 22 Saka 1879 a unified Indian National Calendar to be used for official purposes was introduced based on the Saka era which began with vernal equinox of 78 A.D. Chaitra is the first month and phalguna is the last month of the Saka year. The normal saka year has 365days and the dates of saka year have permanent correspondence with the dates of the Gregorian calendar, Chaitra falls on March 22 in a normal year and on March 21 in a leap year.
ARJUNA AWARDS Instituted in 1961,the Arjuna Awards are given in honour of outstanding performances in Sports and Games. The Government has recently revised the scheme for the Arjuna Awards. According to revised guidelines, a Sportsperson, in order to be eligible for this award, Should not only Perform consistently for the previous three years at the International level while excelling for the year in which the award is given, but also exhibit qualities of sportsmanship , leadership and discipline. The award consists of statuette, a cash award of rs.5lakhs,a scroll of honour and a ceremonial dress. by current affairs
